Equine Training

The Equine Training section of the CPE evaluates a candidate’s ability to handle, examine, and perform common veterinary procedures on horses safely and effectively.

Safe Equine Handling
& Restraint

  • Proper approach and handling techniques

  • Use of halters, lead ropes, and twitches

  • Recognizing equine behavior and safety precautions

Physical Examination &
Basic Diagnostics

  • Assessing vital signs (heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature)

  • Auscultation of heart, lungs, and gastrointestinal sounds

  • Evaluating hydration status and lameness

Common Clinical
Procedures

  • Administering oral and injectable medications

  • Venipuncture (jugular vein) and blood collection

  • Nasogastric intubation and basic hoof care
