Radiology

The Radiology section of the Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE) evaluates a candidate’s ability to safely obtain and evaluate diagnostic radiographs.

Radiographic Safety &
Positioning

  • Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) (lead apron, gloves, thyroid shield)

  • Correct animal positioning for common views (lateral, VD, DV, etc.)

  • Use of positioning aids (sandbags, foam wedges) to minimize motion

Image Acquisition &
Quality Control

  • Proper exposure settings (kVp, mAs) for optimal image quality

  • Use of collimation and correct patient centering

  • Identifying and correcting common radiographic artifacts

Interpretation &
Evaluation

  • Recognizing normal vs. abnormal anatomical structures

  • Assessing radiographic density, contrast, and positioning accuracy

  • Identifying common pathological changes (fractures, masses, organ enlargement)
