The Radiology section of the Clinical Proficiency Exam (CPE) evaluates a candidate’s ability to safely obtain and evaluate diagnostic radiographs.


Radiographic Safety &
Positioning

Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) (lead apron, gloves, thyroid shield)

Correct animal positioning for common views (lateral, VD, DV, etc.)

Use of positioning aids (sandbags, foam wedges) to minimize motion
Image Acquisition &
Quality Control

Proper exposure settings (kVp, mAs) for optimal image quality

Use of collimation and correct patient centering

Identifying and correcting common radiographic artifacts
Interpretation &
Evaluation

Recognizing normal vs. abnormal anatomical structures

Assessing radiographic density, contrast, and positioning accuracy

Identifying common pathological changes (fractures, masses, organ enlargement)
