Surgery
The Surgery section of the CPE evaluates a candidate’s ability to perform basic surgical skills, maintain aseptic technique, and manage surgical patients.


Aseptic Technique & Surgical Preparation

Proper hand scrubbing, gowning, and gloving

Preparing the surgical site (clipping, scrubbing, draping)

Maintaining sterility in the surgical field
Basic Surgical Skills & Instrumentation

Proper handling and use of surgical instruments (scalpel, forceps, needle holders, etc.)

Performing basic suturing techniques (simple interrupted, continuous, etc.)

Hemostasis techniques (ligatures, electrocautery)
Patient Monitoring & Postoperative Care

Recognizing and responding to anesthetic depth changes
-
Monitoring vital signs during surgery (heart rate, respiration, temperature)

Postoperative pain management and wound care
